Depression is a serious condition that very few people like to discuss or even acknowledge. Yet, it is an incredibly common problem, affecting about 20% of adults. Part of the reason people don't discuss mental health issues is that it can be challenging to acknowledge that something may be wrong, and many people worry that others won't understand what they are going through and where they are coming from.
To help break the silence around mental health, Nacari Mosley started a blog and authored a book that has allowed her to explore her own struggles with depression while giving a voice to those who feel they have no one to talk to.
"I made this site is because I used to battle with depression," Nacari admits. "I know what it's like to feel that you have no one to lean on - to feel like you're bottling everything up and that you can't talk to anybody."
The 20-year-old college student focuses on life's difficulties and specific mental health issues that simply don't get discussed often enough to bring about change. Her blog content resembles an interior monologue that touches on sensitive subjects in a way that is genuine and relatable.
She is also releasing a book on Amazon at the beginning of July, which delves deeper into the issues represented on her blog, including stories and poems that anyone who has mental health issues will relate to. For anyone struggling with depression or anxiety, this book in is a must-read.
"The audience on my website is growing, so it's clear that many people are looking for someone that they can relate to," says Nacari. "Huge numbers of us are combating psychological wellness issues and believe we have no one to go to or to converse with about our issues. We fear that others will judge us. For this reason, I freely offer my readers the opportunity to contact me, even if all they need to do is vent."
