SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published an article looking at the origins of the e-bike, the reasons consumers are increasingly choosing e-bikes, and what the future holds for the e-bike market.

We may think e-bikes are a new phenomenon but, in fact, the first patent for an e-bike was taken out in 1895. Today, more and more people are choosing e-bikes. E-bike technology helps consumers enjoy the benefits of cycling but with enough power to support them in overcoming obstacles like hills. In many ways, it gives riders the best of powered and unpowered transportation.

SGS’s Consumer Compact article looks at the history of the e-bike, the technology involved in building an e-bike, the reasons why consumers are choosing e-bikes, and the future of e- bike technology.
